Where does culture come from? In order to answer this question, we need to examine different sorts of culture. Mass culture is considered today the most influential one. It enables certain agents of our Western society to spread hegemonic ideas and values that we incorporate into our everyday lives. In opposition to this, we can also identify forms of cultural expression that go against the mainstream, so-called “culture from below”, or counter culture.
